Nikah When One Party Is in the UAE

A common case involves a bride or groom living in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or another emirate while the other party is in Pakistan. We first determine whether the overseas party will participate directly or whether a Wakeel or written power of attorney is required.

Power of Attorney From the UAE

A power of attorney intended for use in Pakistan should be drafted for the specific Nikah purpose and may require notarisation, attestation or other formalities. The correct route depends on where it is executed and the requirements for its use in Pakistan.

Identity and Marital-Status Documents

Passport, CNIC/NICOP and supporting marital-status documents should be reviewed in advance. Previously married parties may need evidence of divorce, dissolution or a former spouse’s death.

Use of Pakistan Marriage Documents in the UAE

If the couple intends to use the Pakistan marriage record in the UAE, additional attestation, legalisation or translation requirements may apply. These should be checked with the relevant UAE authority. A Pakistan-based Nikah does not by itself guarantee residence, visa or immigration outcomes.
