The exact document set depends on the parties’ identity, location, marital status and whether either person will participate through a Wakeel or power of attorney.

Documents required for online Nikah

Basic Identity Documents

  • CNIC or NICOP copies for Pakistani parties, where applicable.
  • Passport copy for an overseas or foreign-national party.
  • Recent photographs where required for the documentation process.
  • Current contact details and addresses.

Documents for Previously Married Parties

A person who was previously married may need documentary evidence showing how that marriage ended. Depending on the case, this may include talaq/divorce documentation, khula or dissolution orders, registration evidence or a former spouse’s death certificate.

Wakeel and Power of Attorney Documents

If a party is not attending personally, a representative arrangement may be required. A special power of attorney should identify the principal, attorney, proposed spouse and the authority being granted. Overseas execution can require attestation, notarisation or consular formalities depending on where the document is signed and how it will be used.

Witness Information

Witness names and identity information may be needed for proper completion of the Nikah documentation. The witness arrangement should be settled before the ceremony rather than improvised afterwards.

Nikah Nama Information

The parties should provide correct spellings of names, fathers’ names, CNIC/passport details, addresses, mahr terms and other particulars required for the Nikah Nama. Errors at this stage can create avoidable problems when the marriage is later registered or the documents are used abroad.

Overseas Use of Documents

If the marriage record will be used outside Pakistan, additional steps may include certified translation, attestation, apostille/legalisation or verification. The exact destination-country requirements should be checked separately.

Do not send unnecessary sensitive documents. Start by telling us both parties’ locations, nationality and marital status. We can then identify the relevant document list instead of asking for everything.
