Mahr and Marriage Terms

Mahr should be discussed clearly before the Nikah and entered accurately. Where the parties agree additional lawful terms, they should be recorded carefully rather than relying on later verbal recollection.

Online Nikah and the Nikah Nama

Remote participation does not make accurate documentation less important. If a Wakeel signs or participates for a party, the representative details and underlying authority should be consistent with the arrangement used for the Nikah.

Nikah Nama vs Computerised Marriage Certificate

The original Nikah Nama and the later computerised marriage registration certificate are not the same document. The Nikah Nama records the marriage contract; the registration certificate is issued through the relevant local registration process after the marriage has been properly registered.
